When Fall Feels Cozy… and Heavy

This morning was the first cool, kinda crisp one we’ve had — and oh my gosh, it felt so fall. 🍂

With my coffee, notebook, and blanket in hand, I settled onto the back porch to prep for the day.

I love fall — the crisp mornings, cozy flavors, and fun traditions — but for me, it always comes with a wave of emotions too.

Every year, I ask myself: why does something I love so much also make me feel heavy?

The Reflection Fall Brings

Here’s what I’ve been noticing…

Fall starts to signal the end of another year. And sometimes, I look back and feel like I missed too much, or didn’t do as much as I thought I would.

In past years, I’ve really focused on being in the moment — cutting back the distractions and the “fluff” so I could soak up real life. And that’s helped.

But this year, I’m sitting with a new question:

👉 What would make me feel like this year, I really did what I set out to do?

That question hit me hard. And I think it might land with you, too.

A Journaling Prompt for You

Here’s something to reflect on this week — grab your favorite notebook and take 5–10 minutes for yourself:

✨ If December 31st were tomorrow, what would you want to be able to say about how you showed up this fall…this year?
✨ What moments made you feel joyful, energized, and proud?
✨ How did you care for yourself, your health, and your family?
✨ What’s one simple shift you could make today to feel more aligned with your goals and values this season?

Because at the end of the season — and the year — it’s not the to-do lists that bring peace. It’s the memories, the moments, and how we feel in our own skin.

Shifting the Question

So here’s what I’m holding onto this fall:

Instead of asking, “Did I do enough?”
I want to start asking, “What will make me proud when this year wraps up?”

It’s a subtle shift, but it changes everything.

When I focus on today — the joy, the moments, the movement, the fuel I give my body — the year takes care of itself.
